Ideas for Dressing Up As a Nerd for Homecoming Week

Although famous folks such as Bill Gates, Thomas Edison and Tina Fey have all been labeled with the term "nerd," the stereotype evokes one image -- a badly dressed, bespectacled male who tends to "interface" better with computers than people. The University of Pennsylvania even teaches a "Nerds in America" course to incoming freshmen. Put your own spin on dressing up as a nerd and have a totally nerdy Homecoming(plus size homecoming dress) week.
Although there have been many breakthroughs in corrective eye surgery and contact lenses, nerds are still known for their dark, thick, often face-obscuring glasses. Creating a pair of your own nerd glasses doesn't require a prescription or expensive frames. The cheaper the better, as you'll be deconstructing them to fit the nerd persona. Check dollar stores or charity shops for discarded glasses; remove any prescription lenses to prevent problems seeing. Paint the glasses frames black; multiple coats may be required. No nerd glasses would be complete without a bit of duct tape in the middle, across the bridge of the nose. Some duct tape on the frame arms adds to the glasses' wear and tear.
Another clear indication of a person of the nerdy persuasion is the familiar high-water pants. Whether you can see the nerd's ankles or clashing socks, a nerd just can't seem to get pants long enough. Creating the pulled-up pants look is a money saver for Homecoming(plus size homecoming dress). Select an old pair of pants collecting dust in the closet (one you won't want to wear again). If there's enough room in the waist, hike up the pants to reveal the ankles and roll the waist to set it in place. If the pants are too tight or low-waisted, chop several inches off the cuffs. No need to be precise, the worse the angle or the more threads hanging off the bottom, the nerdier the look.
For a different and sweeter take on dressing up as a nerd for Homecoming, take a cue from Willy Wonka's Nerds candy line. Although the candy itself is just tiny single-colored bits of crystallized sugar, the nerds on the packaging offer quite a bit of nerd flair. The Nerds cartoon characters are similar to the candy in that they're a single color, but they feature large snouts/noses and puffy bodies. Depending on the candy box, the Nerds may be surfing, riding skateboards or relaxing with sunglasses. To make a Nerds candy costume for Homecoming, dress in all one color from hat to shoes and fashion the snout out of foam or a party hat with an elastic band, then attach it to your face. Make sure to leave room for proper breathing holes. Glue clusters of the candy or the small candy boxes to the front of your shirt.
