Cocktail dresses are nothing but dresses worn in cocktail parties. They are semi-formal parties commonly called black tie occasions. Few decades back, these dresses were called the afternoon dress. The term cheap formal cocktail dresses was first coined by the famous Christian Dior.
Cocktails dresses are very friendly. What I mean here is they can be worn in any occasion. You don't have to put on your thinking cap while buying or even wearing these cocktail dresses. LBD or the little black dress is one the most famous style of cheap formal cocktail dresses. It is a simple black dress preferably of knee length. It can be worn everywhere, even if it is a formal occasion.
Colors that look the best would be:
Black: It is like the universal color. It goes with any occasion. Also you don't have to worry about matching shoes or any other accessories, since black complements every other color.
Pastel: Go for sober pastel colors in pink, blue etc. They look very feminine and elegant. This is a perfect color dress that can be worn when you are out with your girls.
Bold colors: Red or bright blue or even yellow look very sexy. Keep such colors for parties and semi-formal occasions. Don't forget to set your hair with the latest hairstyle. A cocktail dress looks best with the perfect hairstyle.
In various types of cocktail dresses, the ones with sequins are a hot favorite with celebrities who walk down the red carpet. Sequined dresses also look good at a formal meeting. Also don't forget to look out for the material. I would suggest satin or silk. They are free flowing and easy to wear. During summers, it's comfortable to wear something that's light, but avoid silk during summers. Every cocktail dress should be knee-length and not more. Now that's totally a personal opinion.
To each his own. So if you think you can carry full length gowns, go for it. To accessorize a pretty cheap formal cocktail dresses can be a hard task. It's a little tricky. Here is how you can accessorize your dress:
1 When choosing sandals, make sure they are normal heels. Don't buy those exceptionally high heels. Flats look good, but depend on what colors you go for.
2 Avoid colors similar to your dress. Always go for contrast. It brings out certain sensuality.
3 Ensure the color of the clutch and your sandals are matching. It looks classy.
4 If you planning to leave your hair open, wear big earrings so that they are not hidden behind your tresses.
5 Don't put on earrings, necklaces, bracelets and everything else. Concentrate on just one. Earrings are a must. But with that you either wear a necklace or a bracelet. Don't go for both. It will be overdone.
At the end of the day, any dress looks good only if you have the confidence to carry it off with poise and style. So walk in with confidence, with your head held up high and a smile across your face. Every other worry can be put to rest.
